What are speaker rings?

Speaker rings have many uses. The main application for the rings is for use in custom fiberglass work. Since you can not securely attatch a speaker or subwoofer to the composite itself, you need a mount ring to fasten to. The speaker ring adheres to the fiberglass, giving additional bracing and excellent strength properties, and allows you to drive screws into place to hold the subwoofer.

One other use for these rings are spacers. Many times spacers are needed for adequate clearance in an enclosure. If your sub needs more mounting depth than your box has, you can fasten one or more of these rings in place, and attatch the subwoofer to the ring, giving you the needed clearance. Many times this will enhance the sound quality of the system because of the added clearance from the subwoofer's magnet to the back of the box. The additional airspace will also help keep a sub's vented voice coil from overheating.
